Bournemouth council has recently launched the Dorset Register of Accredited Landlords and Poole, Christchurch, East Dorset and Purbeck Councils have all signed up to the register too.

How does it work?

First, a landlord must become accredited through the Private Rented Sector Accreditation Scheme who are an approved accreditation scheme for the register. Also, landlords accredited through NLA and RLA accreditation schemes can apply to the register.

Once a landlord is accredited they can apply to be included on the register. Landlords will be asked to provide the Councils with a list of the properties they operate in the area.

Benefits to landlords

Landlords who sign up will gain from a range of benefits. In Bournemouth these include:

  • discounted HMO licence fees,
  • grants for insulation work,
  • priority in setting up a new self-service system with the Council’s housing benefit section and
  • advertising on the website.

The benefits of the Dorset Register of Accredited Landlords may vary slightly from council to council.
